Located in a large barn that has been repurposed to become home to Suffolk Swim Free Dog Swimming Pool. The pool is located at Downham Farm, School Road, Monk Soham IP13 7EN. The site benefits from having a large concrete yard with ample parking.
The pool itself is a heated above ground pool, with access ramp and floating platform for dogs of all ages and abilities to be able to safely enter the water. It is 32ft in length and 16ft wide, so there’s plenty of room for the dogs to have a good swim, along with their humans.
The idea for the pool is for you and your dog to have fun! Please note we do not offer hydrotherapy. What we do offer is fun for all the family. Our private swim sessions allow up to 5 dogs to use the pool at the same time, making it the perfect bonding experience for families and their dog/s.
We also offer assisted swimming sessions, ideal if you don’t want to get in the water with your dog, or if your dog isn’t yet a water babe. These sessions are on a one to one basis and are designed to get your dog used to the water and hopefully to become a confident swimmer.
Swimming is a low impact exercise, it improves cardiovascular health and is great for dogs of all ages from exuberant pups to senior dogs. It also helps to build or maintain muscle mass, support joints, reduce inflammation, provide enrichment and of course is fun!
Each session is 30 minutes. We have kept the sessions to this length of time to ensure the safety of your dogs. A one minute swim is the equivalent of a mile walk….so 20 minutes swimming is extremely tiring for your dog.
Private Owner Led Swim
An owner led swim, means just that…we will give you a brief induction the first time you use the pool and then it’s over to you. At least one responsible adult must be in the pool at all times to ensure the safety of your dog/s. If you are bringing more than two dogs, there must be two adults in the pool. Children over 8 years of age, able to stand in 4ft, or 1.2m of water are also allowed in the pool if they can swim. However, please ensure an adult is supervising from within the pool.
Assisted Swim
One if not two of our team will assist your dog/s. this means we will be in the pool with your dogs and will help them gain confidence in the water. We have over 10 years experience working with rescue dogs and work in a positive, force free manner when assisting your dogs. You are positively encouraged to join us in the water, as it’s you who your dog will trust the most initially. So, if you would like your dog to learn to swim in a safe environment this is the most suitable session to book. Every care is taken to take things at your dogs pace, so it could require a few visits to get them fully confident and capable swimmers. However, most dogs will be swimming by the end of their first session.
Pool Parties
These sessions are for confident swimmers who are highly sociable with all other dogs. If your dog loves to swim, loves other dog company then this is the session for you! Loads of fun is the order of the day….prepare to get wet even if you’re not in the pool!!
A member of our team will be present to supervise the session and you are of course, more than welcome to join your dog in the pool.
These sessions are for a maximum of five dogs. Just book on and come along for splashing, tail wagging, diving party.
